SOME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT ORGONE THERAPY
An interview with Chester M. Raphael, M.D. The Wilhelm Reich Museum, 1977
Dr. Raphael trained and worked with Reich from the late 1940s until Reich's imprisonment in 1957, and was
a practicing orgone therapist for over 40 years. In this 1977 interview, he answers a layman's questions about
orgone therapy in simple, clear and unambivalent language. This is valuable reading for anyone who wants
to learn more about the specifics of orgone therapy.
During Reich's lifetime, Dr. Raphael was also an officer of The Wilhelm Reich Foundation. After Reich's
death, he was deeply involved in the activities of The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust--i.e. the Wilhelm Reich
Museum, the preservation of Reich's archives and the publishing of Reich's books by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
He was Mary Higgins' co-editor on numerous publications; wrote the Forewords to the 1973 edition of The
Cancer Biopathy and Early Writings, Part One (1975); and co-wrote the Forewords, with Mary Higgins,
to Reich Speaks of Freud (1967) and Genitality – Early Writings, Part Two (1980).

MY CANCER AND THE ORGONE BOX
by Norman Shapiro
In August of 1962, Norman Shapiro was diagnosed with lung cancer. Ten years later, he wrote a book---a truly unique first person account of his experiences with both classical medicine and orgone therapy in the treatment of his illness. Thanks to the generous donation of the manuscript to the Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust by Ann Shapiro, daughter of Norman Shapiro, we are pleased to have the opportunity to present this fascinating, detailed, historical record of one man's life and death struggle to navigate his way through the emotional and physical consequences of a cancer diagnosis in the year 1962 using all means available to him at the time.

DOR-SICKNESS - A Review of Reich's Findings
DOR was Wilhelm Reich's acronym for Deadly ORgone Energy, a term describing either stagnant biological
orgone energy in the living organism, or stagnant atmospheric orgone energy in the atmosphere. Reich
discovered DOR during the Oranur Experiment at Orgonon in 1951; he first used the term DOR in his
written account, The Oranur Experiment - First Report (1947-1951), published in October 1951.
DOR-Sickness: A Review of Reich's Findings is a brief compilation of material presented by Reich during a
conference held at Orgonon on August 26th and 27th, 1953.

A REVIEW OF THE THEORIES, DATING FROM THE 17th CENTURY, ON THE ORIGIN OF LIFE
by Arthur Hahn
This valuable, historical scientific survey was included in Reich's original German language publication
about his bion experiments, Die Bione (Oslo, 1938). The English version of Die Bione, published in
America in 1979 as The Bion Experiments on the Origin of Life, did not contain this material. This
review was prepared by Arthur Hahn, who was an assistant at Reich's Institut fur Sexualokonomische
Lebensforschung Biologisches Laboratorium in Oslo.

A Preliminary Report of Two Cases by Chester M. Raphael, M.D.
This article first appeared in the Orgone Energy Bulletin, Volume 3, Number 2 (April 1951, p, 90-98), and
was first presented by Dr. Raphael as part of his research at the Orgonomic Infant Research Center. In this
preliminary report, Dr. Raphael discusses how he used his knowledge of the armoring process to alleviate
acute distress during the period of labor.

CATALOG OF WILHELM REICH'S PERSONAL LIBRARY
For years, visitors to the Wilhelm Reich Museum have commented on Reich's impressive personal library which is located intact in the bookshelves of his study on the second floor of the Orgone Energy Observatory. Serious scholars, particularly, often remark on Reich's intellectual breadth and curiosity as evident by this eclectic collection.
To anyone interested in Reich's life and work, especially the serious scholar, this catalog provides a deeper understanding of Reich's intellectual pursuits and the development of his work.
And Reich himself recognized the value of his personal library to future generations.
In his Last Will & Testament--in stipulating that Orgonon, his property in Rangeley, Maine, should be operated in the future as the Wilhelm Reich Museum--he wrote:
"During the years following 1949 my life was running its course
within and around the walls of the Orgone Energy Observatory.
I supervised the building myself for two summers; I paid out
upwards of $35,000 from my privately earned possessions for the
construction. I have collected all of the pertinent materials such
as instruments which served the Discovery of the Life Energy,
the documents which were witnesses to labors of some 30 years
and the library of a few thousand volumes, collected painstakingly
over the same stretch of time and amply used in my researches
and writing..." (March 1957)

SOME NOTES ON ART INSPIRED BY REICH
by William Steig
Today, William Steig is best known as the author of the book Shrek, upon which the hit films are based.
Cartoonist and children's book author Steig was also a patient of Reich's and later his friend. He illustrated
Reich's 1948 book Listen, Little Man! and was instrumental in the 1950s in raising money for Reich's legal
fund. This article first appeared in the Orgone Energy Bulletin, Volume 4, Number One (January 1952,
p. 32-36) ), and in it, Steig writes movingly about the creative process and the contributions of Reich's work
to that process.

IMPRESSIONS OF WILHELM REICH AS AN ARTIST
by Josh Dayton
Wilhelm Reich's oldest daughter Eva gave him a set of oil paints for Christmas 1950. But Reich was so
busy with the Oranur Experiment in January 1951, that it wasn't until the end of that month that he finally
began to use his daughter's gift. "I began to paint yesterday," he wrote in his diary on January 26th. "The
form and color streams right out of my fingers onto the canvas." Four days later, on January 30th, he
wrote, "I discovered through Eva PAINTING. What a way of expressing myself."
Artist Josh Dayton introduces and discusses a series of Reich's diary entries in which Reich articulates his
response to his first attempts at painting. Dayton also writes movingly about Reich's artistic style and his
numerous paintings.

by Chester M. Raphael, M.D. with Philip Gold, M.D. and Charles I. Oller, M.D.
This critique of the book Man in the Trap by Elsworth Baker, M.D. was published by The Wilhelm Reich
Institute for Orgonomic Studies in 1970. In it, three of Reich's students critique a book which claimed to
explain or interpret clinical aspects of orgone theory.
