June 2019 Update
From
The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust
& The Wilhelm Reich Museum

June 2019

Dear Wilhelm Reich Trust Supporter:

For the past 5 years a Board of Directors has governed the Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust. After the death of Mary Higgins in January 2019, the Board has 4 remaining members, as well as a volunteer Development Committee, and an Archives Committee overseeing the Reich Archives. The office manager for 30 years, Mary Henderson, has retired; now Ethna Thompson has that role. She has proven very capable so far, particularly with electronic and social media.

The annual summer conference will take place at Orgonon 8-12 July, on the topic of Reich's writings on Work Democracy. Speakers include Dr. James Strick, Dr. Philip Bennett, Dr. David Brahinsky, Thomas Riepenhausen, MA (Germany), Patricia Estrada, MA (Mexico City), Dr. Havard Nilsen (Oslo). In preparation for this meeting, Reich's long out of print 1939 pamphlet "The Natural Organization of Work in a Work Democracy" has been published in English for the first time, from a typescript in the Reich Archives. It is one of many articles, 7 of them never previously published in English, in the new volume 7 of the journal Orgonomic Functionalism. The Trust has revived this journal to bring out in print previously unpublished manuscripts from the Reich archives and long out of print, hard to find publications such as the 1939 "Bion Experiments on the Cancer Problem." I attach here the Table of Contents of the new issue. Volume 8 is underway; it is hoped it will be ready by Fall 2019. The new publishing format allows paper copy, pdf or both to be purchased. In recognition of a large, underserved audience for Reich's work in Spain and Latin America, five out of nine articles in vol. 7 appear in both English and Spanish.

Over the winter some timber was cut and sold on the property at Orgonon, to improve the view of the Museum and to reduce fire risks to the historic buildings there. The income from the timber sale, the sales of Orgonomic Functionalism, and many new monthly donors through the Wilhelm Reich Trust website have helped to stabilize our financial situation to some extent. A major donation has also helped pay for a structural and architectural evaluation of the 70 year old Orgone Energy Observatory (now the Museum Building), which may need structural repairs. We are seeking a long-term financial planning consultant who can help us create a professional plan for the next 5, 10 and 20 years of the Trust's future.

A separate fundraising campaign is still underway for the digitization and long-term preservation of Reich's archives. For more info, write jstrick@fandm.edu

Many thanks for your continued support!
