A NEW TITLE IN OUR BOOKSTORE:
CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS ON THE USE OF
THE ORGONE ENERGY ACCUMULATOR
The Cancer Biopathy is definitive reading for anyone who wants
to understand Reich's cancer research and his experimental medical
treatment with the orgone energy accumulator. Also valuable are the
medical case studies of other physicians, originally published in the
International Journal of Sex-Economy and Orgone Research and the
Orgone Energy Bulletin. Because the Journals and Bulletins were
banned and burned by the United States government in the 1950s
and are available today only on microfilm, these case studies are not
widely known.
Below is the table of contents:
Anderson, W. (1950) "Orgone Therapy in Rheumatic Fever,"
Orgone Energy Bulletin, 2: 71-73
Bremer, K. (1953) "Medical Effects of Orgone Energy,"

NEW CD IN OUR BOOKSTORE:
THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY AND MEDICAL PRACTICE
On August 24, 1953, Reich met with six students at Orgonon to discuss
the hostility they were experiencing because of their involvement with
him and with the orgone accumulator. This conversation, originally
preserved on wire recording, is now available on CD.
During this discussion, Reich, Elsworth Baker M.D., Walter Hoppe M.D.,
Ola Raknes Ph.D., Chester M. Raphael M.D., Eva Reich M.D., and
Simeon Tropp M.D. talk about problems in medicine, science, and
society that still plague us today. This CD captures a unique and
fascinating moment in time from a half-century ago.
ANOTHER NEW CD IN OUR BOOKSTORE:
THE HISTORY AND FUTURE OF THE WILHELM REICH
MUSEUM, ARCHIVES, AND INFANT TRUST
On November 4, 2003, Mary Higgins spoke about her tenure both as
the original Trustee of the Infant Trust and as Museum Director at a
fundraiser held at the Williams Club in New York City. Her remarks
provide answers to many questions about the aftermath of Reich's
death, the origin of the Museum, the struggle to gather and preserve
the Archives, and the efforts to republish Reich's books.
ROGER W. STRAUS, PUBLISHER (1917 - 2004)
Roger W. Straus, Chairman of Farrar Straus & Giroux, is one of the
unsung heroes of the Reich legacy. Straus, who passed away on
May 25th at the age of 87, was instrumental in breaking the silence
that surrounded Reich's work after the destruction of his books and
his death in prison. For forty-five years, Straus worked with
The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust to republish Reich's books and
introduce new titles, starting with Selected Writings: An Introduction
to Orgonomy in 1960.
Farrar Straus & Giroux was founded by Straus in 1946. Over the
years this publishing house became known for its international list
of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and children's books. Its authors have
won extraordinary acclaim, including National Book Awards, Pulitzer
Prizes, and twenty-one Nobel Prizes.
Straus was the keynote speaker at a Trust fundraiser at the Williams Club
in 2002, at which time he articulated his outrage about censorship in
general and as it applied to Reich. Such important works as Character
Analysis, The Mass Psychology of Fascism, The Sexual Revolution,
The Function of the Orgasm, The Cancer Biopathy and many others
might have remained inaccessible to the public but for the principled
stand of Roger W. Straus for over four decades.
THE WILHELM REICH INFANT TRUST RECEIVES
MAINE HUMANITIES COUNCIL GRANT
Our staff and volunteers devote a great deal of time and energy applying
for grants to fund the numerous educational and community-oriented
programs that bring hundreds of people to Orgonon every year.
In May the Trust received a "New Century Community Program and
Maine Humanities Council Grant" to support a summer lecture series
entitled Contemporary and Historic Maine. The programs will take
place at 7:00 p.m. on three consecutive Monday evenings at the
Conference Building. The three stories to be presented in this
public lecture series will bring into focus the diversity of Maine's
history and contemporary interests:
July 26
Jan Piribeck, Assistant Professor of Art at University of Southern Maine,
will talk about several Maine artists whose work addresses environmental
and ecological concerns. This will include a discussion of a collaborative
project based in Portland's Back Cove which blended science, technology,
and the arts.
August 2
The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine will be
represented by its Director, Donna Galluzzo, who will describe the
activities of this unique school which draws people from around the
country to document Maine's people and events.
August 9
Earle G. Shettleworth, Director of the Maine Historic Preservation
Commission, will show the remarkable historic photographs of
E.R. Starbird as he discusses Sporting Camps of the Rangeley Region.
A NEW ROOF ON THE CONFERENCE BUILDING
Thanks to the generous contribution of a friend of the Museum and
the Trust, we have re-shingled half of the Conference Building roof.
Gil Bolduc of Rumford, who installed the metal roofs last year on
our two cottages--Bunchberry and Tamarack--was hired to do
the re-shingling.
A FINAL REMINDER ABOUT THE SUMMER CONFERENCE:
If you're planning to attend our summer conference and haven't
yet registered, we ask you to please do so.

The Orgone Energy Accumulator:
Its Scientific and Medical Use
For twenty-five years Jorgos Kavouras, M.D. has maintained a general
practice in Germany and Greece in which the orgone accumulator is
his principal therapeutic tool. His book Healing With Orgone Energy
will be published in Germany in Fall 2004. In it Dr. Kavouras
documents over 40 case studies of his practical experience with
the orgone accumulator. We are pleased that Dr. Kavouras will
be joining us as an instructor at this year's Summer Conference.
