VISITING ORGONON
As we prepare for our summer season, we want to remind you of our
hours so you can plan your visits accordingly.
Our 175 acre property, with its trails and nature walks, is open daily
to the public year-round from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Orgone Energy Observatory is open for tours in July and August,
Wednesday - Sunday, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. And in September on
Sundays only, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for adults
and children over 12. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Special tours at any other time are available by appointment only;
admission is $100 for groups of up to ten people.
The Conference Building, which houses the Museum and Trust offices,
is open year-round Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
With the addition of our new Reading Room this summer, these hours
may be subject to change. We'll let you know soon.
SUMMER CONFERENCE July 19-23, 2004
The Orgone Energy Accumulator: Its Scientific and Medical Use
For twenty-five years Jorgos Kavouras, M.D. has maintained a general
practice in Germany and Greece in which the orgone accumulator is
his principal therapeutic tool. His book Healing With Orgone Energy will be published in Germany in Fall 2004. In it Dr. Kavouras
documents over 40 case studies of his practical experience with
the orgone accumulator. We are pleased that Dr. Kavouras will
be joining us as an instructor at this year's Summer Conference.

WILLIAM STEIG: THE MAN WHO CREATED SHREK
For decades William Steig was known as a prolific cartoonist for
The New Yorker magazine and an award-winning writer of children's
books. Today a whole new generation knows him as the author
of Shrek, the book on which the hit movie was based. A friend
and longtime supporter of Wilhelm Reich and his work, Steig
illustrated Listen, Little Man (which Reich published in 1948),
raised funds for Reich's legal defense, and was one of the few
people allowed to visit Reich in prison. Steig died on
October 3, 2003 at the age of 95.
Steig's forty-four original drawings for Listen, Little Man are
part of the Reich Archives at the Countway Library of Medicine
at Harvard. And throughout this summer they will be on display
free of charge in our Conference Building at Orgonon. Once again,
we'll let you know the hours that the building will be open.
FOSTER FAMILIES AT TAMARACK
If you're interested in renting either of our two cottages,
Bunchberry or Tamarack, we remind you that Tamarack
is unavailable from June 19 to August 21. Since 1989
The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust has been donating the
cottage every summer to foster and adoptive Maine families.
In his Will, Reich stipulated that this cabin (formerly the
living quarters for him and his family) was to be used
"as a summer home for children." The Trust carries
out that wish by making the cabin available to adoptive,
foster and kinship children and their families who could
not otherwise afford a summer camp experience as a
family. Every year Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine
(AFFM) selects eight families by random drawing;
each family spends a week at Tamarack which offers
quiet, seclusion, access to the shores of Dodge Pond,
and the opportunity to be together in the beauty of
the Rangeley Lakes region.
FOREIGN PUBLICATIONS OF REICH'S BOOKS
We're frequently asked about the history and current status of
Reich's publications throughout the world. It's a fascinating topic
which provides a compelling look at which facets of Reich's work
are of interest to different countries and cultures. We're planning to
post a report on our website later this year, detailing which titles are
available in specific languages. Until then, here are the languages
in which Reich's work is now available:
Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek,
Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian,
Polish, Portuguese (which includes Brazil), Romanian, Serbo-Croatian,
Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
REICH DOCUMENTARY: MAN'S RIGHT TO KNOW
We've also been asked if we have plans to produce and distribute
foreign language versions of Man's Right to Know, our half-hour
biographical video about Reich which we completed in 2002.
Budget constraints prevent us right now from doing this.
We remind our foreign friends that the video is available in
PAL format for $34.50. Regular VHS copies sell for $24.95.
OUR OTHER SUMMER ACTIVITIES
While our primary focus is on programs, exhibits, and other
functions specific to Reich's life and legacy, we are part of
the vibrant community of Rangeley, Maine, and recognize
our responsibilities to our local friends and neighbors.
Our property and facilities are the venue for a myriad of
educational, recreational, and social activities that bring
hundreds of people to Orgonon every year.
In 1989 we began a Natural Science Program, funded largely
by grants, attracting people to our meadows, woods, trails
and lakefront for lectures, workshops, and hikes. In 2001
a sheltered outdoor classroom was erected, allowing us to
expand this program. And our Conference Building continues
to be the site of additional educational and social events,
including our Summer Evenings at Orgonon. Below is

FRIENDS OF THE WILHELM REICH MUSEUM
Friends of the Wilhelm Reich Museum was begun in 1977 to support the
development of the Museum as the scientific and educational center that Reich
envisioned.
Membership in the Friends has become the most popular way to contribute to
the Museum.
In the past 27 years, hundreds of people from all over the world have joined
the Friends, providing significant support for the Museum while benefiting
from the privileges of membership. Members receive the Friends' annual newsletter,
free admission to the Orgone Energy Observatory during visiting hours, a 10%
discount on purchases in the Museum bookstore, and advance notice of new
publications.
Among the projects that the Friends have supported financially are:

- the production of Man's Right to Know
- preservation of Reich's paintings
- summer Museum staffing
- the Natural Science Program
The Friends also provide college scholarships for local high
